TeamSugar member MyOpinion (http://teamsugar.com/user/My+Opinion) has asked a favor of all of you (and me)! She's hoping to put together a gift basket for her sister, to thank her for all that she's done and really show her how much she's appreciated and loved.
Here's more of the story:
"Do you have any ideas on a gift basket for someone who constantly cares for another? It's for my sister. Ever since my niece was in a really bad car accident last November, my sister has been by her side day and night. Now that my niece is home, my sister has to do everything for her because Jessi is paralyzed in her right arm and leg and she is now blind in her left eye.
So you see how I would love to come up with something for my sister, to make her something to show much we appreciate that she works hard 24/7 and does it with such love and no complaints. Any suggestions?
Here's a little more about her sister...
"My sister loves Oprah
and The Young and the Restless. She loves anything mexican - the look, the food - and we're Jewish and Indian
. She loves peace and harmony as well. She loves God too and she is very generous."
So here's what I'm thinking and hopefully all of you like the idea as well...
If Only It Was Judy Garland...
A Mexican Themed Basket!
Of course, I also think we should add some sisterly touches and any religious touches that would look great as well.
So let's make this gift basket truly amazing and come up with some brilliant and gorgeous ideas to fill it! Bookmark ideas, add recipes, or whatever fabulous Mexican themed ideas you can come up with!
I'm thinking salsas, tapestries, bright colors, margarita glasses, artwork, jewelry, anything! Be creative!
And once again, MyOpinion, thanks for being such a thoughtful and considerate sister! I'm sure your sister will be surprised and overwhelmed and know that she's loved and that her efforts are appreciated. You're amazing!

Lipsy
oh goodness, what a story..
Let me think about this one... want to give some really good ideas!
1Here's some quick ideas: Make a Chili Pepper Flower Pot! http://teamsugar.com/user/ALSW/casacravings/622409
Or a Chili Pepper Painted Candle!
http://teamsugar.com/user/ALSW/casacravings/622422
They add that DIY touch and could make a good addition to the basket, especially if you're searching for more stuff to fill it at the last minute!
2I don't know what part of the country they live in, but Mexican blankets are really warm and I used to have one as a throw blanket.
3Here I bookmarked a CD! I also sent you a recipe.:

Like Water for Chocolate Movie - http://imdb.com/title/tt0103994/
6a CD of her favorite movie ,a gift certificate for a massage or to her favorite restaurant,a bottle of perfume or you could create for her your own gift certificate giving her a day of relaxation and a home cooked mexican meal.
7Oooooh anything for my momo girl.
8I say instead of a basket she could do a pinata. I know Momo is uber creative so I think she would be perfect at making a pinata`. I say since her sister is religious that she could make a Cross pinata. Then she could put stuff inside such as relaxing soaps, bubblebath and a gift certificate for a mexican restaurant or rubles homemade gift certificate where MO could make her a mexican inspired meal. Good luck Jamzers!!!
Awwww thats such a sad story!!! I hope everything turns out ok for them!!
9As for the basket a lot of my ideas were mentioned above like the margarita mix, chipa and salsa, recipes for quesadillas and fajitas! If she enjoys the music maybe a Mariachi CD???? Oh some nice silver jewelry might do the trick...I know when I visit Mexico I love the jewelry!
Instead of using a basket, maybe a Mexican pot or a sombrero. Where I live, you can find all kinds of Mexican stuff like candy and crafts. Check out this website for some craft and jewelry ideas: http://www.gringasandcompany.com/ Hope this helps.
10These Chili Pepper bowls from Sur La Table are cute! Perfect for appetizers, chips, dips and salsa's

12I love the idea of a sombrero! You girls are giving some great ideas!
13I love the sombrero idea as well. Since she loves Oprah too, maybe a book from her book club would be cool, maybe some inspirational music as well, because of her faith, maybe something from Third Day, Or Mercy Me, or Casting Crowns (really good Christian bands), a gift certificate to a really good Mexican Restaurant, good recipes for Chile and Enchiladas.

15Wow! I can't say that I've cried happy tears in awhile! But thanks ladies. This means more than you know. What a touching surprise to see this post of ideas for me. I will take every one into consideration, and definitely take pictures to show it. Thank you ALSW and everyone else on this page.
I'm
like a big fat
16Awwww, My Opinion, I wish I was there to give you a hug. Your sister sounds like an incredible woman and she deserves the blessing you are planning for her. I think you are a wonderful sister to do this for her. You should write to Oprah and tell her about your sister. I think she would sign one of her book club books for her or something. It would be nice if the two of you could have a whole day at a day spa or something. I'm sure your sister will be blessed no matter what you do.
17The Mexican blanket 7kimba7 suggested is a great one. They're easily found on the internet and aren't expensive.
You could add a box of bunuelos, which are fried thin tortilla like things with cinnamon sugar on them that are completely addictive. There's also a lot of different Mexican candies. And what about one of those smaller/mini pinatas. They're adorable.
18Oh that is so sweet of you. The things that popped in my head for this has been said by the others.
19
y'all rock!
